Status of Compatibility with the Requirements
This website is partially compliant with the accessibility requirements that apply to us (WCAG 2.1 Level AA). We have conducted comprehensive accessibility testing using automated tools and manual evaluation methods.
Incompatibility with Accessibility Legislation
The content listed below does not fully comply with the relevant accessibility legislation:
Empty form label (WCAG 1.3.1, 3.3.2 - Level A)
- The newsletter signup form contains one empty label element generated by the content management system (Grav CMS).
- All functional form fields (email address, name fields, consent checkbox) have proper, descriptive labels.
- Impact: This affects a non-interactive display element; all interactive form controls remain fully accessible via keyboard and screen readers.
Video audio descriptions (WCAG 1.2.5 - Level AA)
- Embedded videos do not include audio descriptions of visual content.
- Impact: Users with visual impairments may miss visual-only information presented in videos.
PDF document accessibility (WCAG various criteria - Level A/AA)
- Some PDF documents uploaded to the website may not be fully accessible (e.g., lacking proper tagging, reading order, or alternative text for images).
- Impact: Screen reader users may experience difficulty accessing PDF content.
Disproportionate Burden
The following content is not made available in an accessible manner because this would result in a disproportionate burden for us:
Audio descriptions for videos
- Creating professional audio descriptions for all video content would require significant resources beyond the project budget.
Full remediation of all PDF documents
- Many PDF documents are provided by partner institutions or third parties and cannot be directly edited.
- Retroactively remediating all existing PDF documents would require disproportionate time and resources relative to the project scope.
The AI2PI project strives to present content as barrier-free as possible within available resources.
Content Not Subject to Accessibility Requirements
The following content is exempt from accessibility requirements:
- Third-party embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos with privacy-enhanced mode) - We have no direct control over the accessibility of third-party platforms, though we select accessible options where available.
Accessible Alternatives
For content with accessibility considerations, we provide the following accessible alternatives:
For videos:
- Videos are embedded via YouTube, which allows automatically generated subtitles to be activated.
- Captions provide text alternatives for audio content.
- Users can enable captions through YouTube's player controls.
For PDF documents:
- Where possible, key information from PDFs is also provided in accessible HTML format on the website.
- Users experiencing difficulties with PDF documents can contact us to request information in an alternative format (see contact details above).
General accessibility features:
- All images include descriptive alternative text.
- The website is fully navigable by keyboard.
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality.
Evaluation Method
- Self-assessment conducted by the AI2PI project team on 1 February 2026
- Automated testing tools: WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool, axe DevTools, Google Lighthouse
- Manual testing: Keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, color contrast verification
- Standard: WCAG 2.1 Level AA
